The Women's Program Our dream was to develop a Women’s Program and provide a place for women to learn how to take care of their babies, learn life skills, be listened to, be loved and hear God’s word – our dream became a reality as we developed the Women’s Center. - Faith based vocational training in such areas as: Nanny Training, Sewing, Fish Harvesting and Bread Baking
- Programs and classes featuring Bible studies, sexual health, child development, nutrition, sewing, typing and bread baking.
- Average class size is approximately 20 women.
- First completed Nanny class graduated in January 2006.
- On-going training programs and tools that teach women how to better financially support and care for their families.
- Training programs that provide an outlet for the women to sell their items
Heartline Ministries Women’s Program
UPDATE*UPDATE*UPDATE
Two branches of the Heartline Ministries Women’s Program are up and running. Each day at 9:00 AM four students and a teacher gather round our treadle sewing machines and create. They are not only creating clothes, diapers, bibs, blouses and skirts they are creating a way for them to be self sufficient and take care of their children. They are creating a way to better their lives by learning a skill that can bring in a salary! They are creating hope!!!!!!! Twenty five more machines are in route to Haiti and each machine will be matched to a student. Each woman that becomes a student increases her ability to get a job and make a living! Each woman who makes a living is less likely to give her children to an orphanage. Each woman who makes a living can feed her children nutritious food and send them to school! Each person who attends school has a better chance at a more quality life. These women are in a position to make better choices for their families. This gives them power to have a better life!
The second phase of the program is our prenatal nutrition program. We hope this will eventually become a full fledged birthing center. Each Monday afternoon up to ten pregnant women come into our classroom and sit in a relaxed atmosphere and receive prenatal vitamins, iron, folic acid and a protein food like eggs and drink a glass of milk. Once a month these women are weighed, have blood pressure taken, have their bellies measured and are looked over for any concerns. During this time we show power points on prenatal health, breast feeding, pregnancy and other related topics. Once a month we will be showing a full length feature to promote the gospel such as “The Jesus Film”. It is an exciting time. We are just at the beginning but look toward a complete program to help the women of our neighborhood. We want to help our neighbors be healthy women who have healthy babies. In Haiti up to 71.65 babies out of 1,000 die at birth. Many times a mom dies leaving several orphaned children. A tetanus vaccine or treating anemia during pregnancy can significantly change that! We are looking to start a vaccination program for these women and their newborns as well.
The women’s program is functioning out of the front rooms of our toddler house. We are crowding them out and we realize the women’s program needs a home of its own. We are looking to raise funds to buy a house on our street to run this program out of. We have had two live in pregnant teens so far and realize if we had a home for the women’s program we could take in more young ladies in this position.
We are starting small but see “big” in the near future. The needs are big and our God is bigger. We can do it!!!!!!!!!!
